Studio Work 2

I decided to completely change the way i photographed in these set of studio portraits. Focusing mainly on capturing feeling through the eyes of the subject in an attempt to create a connection between viewer and the subject in the photograph. This required me to spend time positioning the lights to really emphasise on the eyes making them look alive by catching reflections.

The direction the subject is looking along with expressions can change the viewers interpretation of a photograph. I have tired to maintain consistency through the three shown here.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Studio Work 1

Photographs taken in the studio using a single light on a low brightness setting. I get a cold feel from these images, its hard to make connections to the person you feel almost invisible to the subject. I really like how the colours have become muted against the black background adding to the 'moody' feel to the set of images.

Three Photographs, Three Days.

I wanted to photograph something that changes regularly in my house. After finishing planning my work for half term i looked at my bed covered in books and in a mess and decided to focus on my bed. Being the biggest thing in my room taking and taking up most of the floor space i often leave things on it throughout the day.

I took each photograph at around mid afternoon on three consecutive days, this being the best time for natural light coming into the window. I took the shot whatever state my bed was in rather than setting the items up and trying to get a similar viewpoint each time. I'm not too sure what my opinion is on them i think as showing a change that happens and what is on the bed can relate to what has happened in the day works well as giving information on what i had been doing leading up to when it was taken.

If i can have your opinions in a comment as i cant make my mind up if there at all interesting or not. Thanks

Accidental but interesting

I took this photograph whilst in the studio taking photographs for my visual communications project. It was a mistake i had the settings completely wrong on the camera but for some reason i didn't want to delete it. I know its a 'bad photograph' in the sense that is so strongly over exposed its lost all the colour but i actually find this interesting how only the shadows are left in the photograph and they would not be anywhere near as interesting or descriptive if i had the exposure correct. You opinions are appreciated :) .

Narrative

A narrative i produced after researching the work of Duane Michals and how he tells a narrative by using a grid. I had never attempted to do anything like this before so it took me a while to select photos that flowed well in order to create atmosphere and show links between each frame.

I'm not going to give my explanation on this photographic narrative the story is for you to determine. If you have any questions leave a comment . ( click to make it bigger )

Fire Juggler

I get the feeling when looking over the images fast you can get a sence of him linking the movement captured. They work well at showing a sequence of movement.

I found these images quite hard to produce using show shutter speed to capture the movement of the fire and the juggler himself whilst trying to keep the background sharp. But im happy with the outcomes.

Street Photography

Whilst on our gallery visits in Birmingham and Wolverhampton we were set a project around Street Photography, we were given the a quote 'If you can smell the street by looking at the photo, its a street photograph.' - Bruce Gilden In response to this i took several images throughout the day but the ones i felt fitted that description are these that i took in Birmingham New Street Station whilst waiting for a train.

I have no idea who the person is in the picture but i find the way he is silhouetted due to the sun coming in from the open end of the station. I famed him just off centre with the tracks leading off into the distance to allow the viewer to determine the story behind the subject in the photograph. Is he waiting for the train or waiting for someone on the train?

From the three images above i decided on the first one but chose to crop and slightly darken the image i chose as my final one for this project. I feel it gives a much more focused view on the subject and cuts out the unneeded elements in this case excess floor and ceiling.

Self Portraits - Avalible Light.

In an attempt to capture anger i used the UV light from my lizards tank and used a shutter speed of around 0.5 seconds to allow movement to become blurred in the captured image i used a self timer continuous shooting mode to create the sieries.I am really happy with the images i captured i was surprised it worked first time so effectively.

I don't see myself as an angry person but is definitely a emotion that we can all relate to. We all have the capability to become enraged at things sometimes the smallest thing can really annoy us.  It is an outburst that i have recreated for the images.

I have presented the images in three ways to attempt to gain feedback on which you feel works best. As individuals, a Triptych or layered over of each other. Your opinions are much appreciated :)
