AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!

ANGER.RAGE.

Canals at night.

Some images i have selected when i went to the canals after it had snowed at night ( YES I WAS FROZEN)
I decided to pick this five out because i like how light creates a warming feel to the images i also really think the refelctions in the water compliment the hard lines of the walls and structures that surround the canals.

Passer By

I think the way the figure has become blurred in the second image due to using a longer exposure time due to shooting at night has really worked to my advantage on this photograph. It created movement and a sense of a rush of the person passing an open doorway that almost invites to go inside on the first image when no one is in the fame. Without stopping or going inside.

Under the Bridge

I think the lights in the image really add to the atmosphere created in the bridge by highlighting the texture on the roof in a warm yellow colour giving a secure feeling even though It looks a bit creepy . This contrasts with the outside that feels more open with mixing of lights and colour increasing the sense of looking out the image has.

Split by a Bridge

I think this image gets separated into three sections each having its own atmosphere:

Left of Bridge- gives us a entrance.

Bridge - Gives us texture and a sense of security of being under something.

Right of bridge - open space and winding paths create a sense of adventure.

Birmingham Canals

Some images i have selected when i went to the canals after it had snowed at night ( YES I WAS FROZEN)
I decided to pick this five out because i like how light creates a warming feel to the images i also really think the refelctions in the water compliment the hard lines of the walls and structures that surround the canals.

Birmingham #1

A series of photos that i have selected from when i decided to take photographs around town at night. I chose to try out some nighttime photography an experiment looking at lights around the city and how it draws the viewers eyes around a photograph, i feel the images selected have worked well in doing this. I like the cold feel that the fluorescent lights give to the images adding to the urban feel.

Ambient Light

I think the softness of the light in this photograph works to its advantage it took me quite a few shots to get the sense of ambient light through this image. I have never really looked at this window in my house before due to it having frosted glass, i thing that it works to its advantage creating a sense of mystery to what is outside as you can see i mixture of colours and shapes coming from outside. I tired to use the bannister to create some direction away from the window giving it a diagonal line for your eyes to follow draws your eyes towards the light hitting to the wall and the shape and texture the section has.

Rooftops

The way the geometric shapes of the rooftops contrast with the natural shape of the trees balances the image well and the perspective really draws your eyes into the colours of the sunset sky, i also think the black and white of the snow roofs and trees make the sky alot more vibrant, i could further exaggerate this using Photoshop techniques.

Spooky Trees - Taken in the middle of the day?

Landscapes with a change.

After taking some photographs in colour i decided to focus on the lines made by the tops of the hills against the sky, i used settings on my camera to add the blue and green filters to my photographs to really abstract the images, in some ways i find them much more interesting than the colour ones due to the fairly dull palette of the the greens and browns against the blue. With these images the sky shows up in more detail creating contrast in texture against the harsh jagged edges of the hills.

Carding Mill Valley

A selection of three landscapes i captured on the trip to Carding Mill Valley, I tired my best to balance the images by using the rule of thirds and also the colours in the image, as i don't normally work in colour it is something i am keen or improving. My personal favorite of the three is the second one as it has multiple layers overlapping and reaches right back into the distance.

Composition

Just interested on what you feel about the composition of these two images, being of the same object framing is going to be the main difference between them. For me I'm indifferent between them, the portrait one gives main focus to the texture of the rocks and the tree, in contrast to this the landscape image draws your eyes away from the tree and you look more into the sky and the details contrasted between the sky and the landscape. Do you have a favourite?

90'

Sepia or not?????? Really cant make my mind up on these i think iv balanced the colour photo's really well and i feel you loose some of the detail and natural feel to the image in the speia versions, you oppinions please.

Motorway Pt.2

Creating Contrast with the same viewpoint out of the windowscreen from the back seats. One with the car still the other with the car moving. I like the feeling of calm with the still interior one and the way it contrasts with the energy in the second series of images.

The docks werent open, but the motorway was.

My initial plan was to photograph the docks and industrial area around the port of Newport after visiting the university for an open day. However with light quickly disappearing and the ports surprisingly hard to access to get any really interesting shots we decided to turn home. Whist on the motorway i decided to take photographs experimenting in documenting a journey and the landscape that we passed. Fortunately the fading light made these photographs more interesting due to the cars having there headlights on and the sunset creating interesting red/purple shades on the clouds.

The first set of images i like the way the car behind was traveling at a similar speed to us, gives the images a common similarity but the area around the image changes. I chose to position the car off centre to encourage the viewer to focus on the movement of the other vehicles and background.

For these images i chose to use the car window opposite to give a frame to the image. I like how abstracted the trees and crash barrier have become and the occasional streak of colour from a passing car gets picked up. The idea behind framing the work with the window mirror is something i picked up from researching Fernando Gómez's work 'A taxi drivers gaze' i think its a really simplistic way of giving a sense of seeing the image in a first person perspective.
